The Ardèche

The 'Ardèche' region is named after the river with the same name.

Being a lush, green region with plenty of sun and full of natural water sources it is a popular place for ever more foreigners and Frenchmen to buy a holiday home. Yet, the region is far away from mass tourism and we expect (and hope!) that it will stay that way. It happens to be one of the most authentic regions of France where live is still 'slow live'. Exploring the countryside you cross hamlets where it seems that time came to a halt.

If you are keen on scenic drives through the countryside, your car might come in very handy.

To the south you can find the health resort Vals-les-Bains (10 min.), the historic city of Aubenas (15 min) or Vallon-Pont-d’Arc (40 min), which is the starting point for the canoeing descent of the gorges-de-l’Ardèche.
To the north you can enjoy the plateau (1100 m), the Ray Pic waterfalls, the Gerbier du Jonc, source of the Loire. If you are keen on water sports, do not forget to visit Lac Martial (Martial Lake).

Needless to mention that these are only some of the many beautiful sights you can visit. There are many other small, picturesque villages to explore, museums to visit, walks to make etc. If you are of the adventurous type, you will certainly enjoy canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, canyoning, horse riding or cycling.

During winter season lots of snow activities are possible at 45 min from Antraïgues. Tracks for skiing, langlauf and racquet walks are well signposted.
